20 years of trustful cooperation – Kempa extends its partnership with handball icon Bjöggi

Balingen. March 12, 2025 – The sports equipment brand Kempa is extending its long-standing partnership with Icelandic goalkeeper icon Björgvin “Bjöggi” Páll Gústavsson until the end of his career.

The Olympic silver medalist from the volcanic island and the German sports equipment brand have enjoyed a trusting and familiar working relationship for over two decades, which the experienced handball pro looks back on with pleasure:

“My connection to Kempa began in 2004 with the Icelandic national team and was strengthened after the 2008 Olympic Games while playing in Germany. We’ve been together ever since – and the rest is history. I am grateful for the many years together and look forward to continuing to play for Kempa until I hang up my boots.”

Tim Grothaus, Head of Sponsoring & Promotion at Kempa, also appreciates the value of the almost unique long-term partnership:

“Bjöggi is a highly professional and exemplary athlete on and off the field and has always been easy for us to work with, as he fully identifies with us and our values. This attitude has also made it possible for him to build such an outstandingly long career at top international level. That’s why he was and is a great figurehead for our brand and a role model for all our athletes when it comes to how a partnership can be lived sustainably.”

The extension of the supplier contract with the goalkeeper, who is currently under contract at the reigning EHF European Cup winners Valur Reykjavík, underlines the demand for long-term partnerships as the core of Kempa’s sponsorship philosophy.
