uhlsport launches cooperation with Jamaican national goalkeeper Andre Blake
Balingen, 27. March 2023 – For the first time in the history of uhlsport GmbH, a partnership between a professional goalkeeper of the Major League Soccer and the Swabian sporting goods manufacturer will be concluded. The Jamaican international and goalkeeper of the Philadelphia Union Andre Blake will be outfitted by uhlsport with immediate effect.
The national player has been considered a gifted soccer player since his childhood and developed his athletic quality at a young age in his home country Jamaica. There he also stood on the pitch for several youth national selection teams and during this time he consolidated his position as goalkeeper. In his early 20s, he made the leap to the United States with the inclusion in the men’s soccer team there at the University of Connecticut, another milestone in his athletic career.
His impressive performance in college soccer did not go unnoticed by professional American soccer teams. In 2014, the Jamaican received his first contract in the highest U.S. and Canadian soccer league, Major League Soccer, and still stands in goal for his club of choice, Philadelphia Union. To date, Andre Blake has been named Goalkeeper of the Year three times, most recently in 2022, and has been named to the MLS All-Star team several times. He has also been selected twice as the MLS Best XI in 2020 and 2022, an annual honor for Major League Soccer’s top eleven players.
At the same time as his move to American professional soccer, the now 32-year-old was also included in Jamaica‘s national team. To date, Andre Blake has 64 appearances and counting for his home country. With the Jamaican national team, he secured the Caribbean Cup in 2014 and managed to win the runner-up title again in 2017. He was also set up as the goalkeeper for the Jamaican national team in the continental soccer championship, the Gold Cup, and can now call himself a two-time runner-up with the team in 2015 and 2017.
